| 2/06/10-- Hornets Comeback to Defeat Owls 72-65 |
The Harris-Stowe State University Men’s Basketball Team earned their third consecutive American Midwest Conference (AMC) victory by defeating William Woods University 72-65, Saturday afternoon. The Hornets moved to 5-3 in the AMC and 13-10 overall on the season.
Harris-Stowe had five players score in double figures led by Terry Hollins (Marquette H.S./ Milwaukee, WI) 14 points. Jarvis Walker (University of Kentucky/ Chicago, IL) completed a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Kevin Kramer (Hillsboro H.S./ Hillsboro, MO) scored 12 points, Marcel Anderson (Kennedy King C.C./ Chicago, IL) scored 11 points and Tyrone Stevens (North Park University/ Chicago, IL) added 10 points.
Walker made a field goal with just under 17 minutes remaining in the first half to give the Hornets an early 7-5 lead. The Owls countered with a three-pointer to take an 8-7 lead and did not surrender their lead the remainder of the half leading 35-30 at the break.
Harris-Stowe set the tone offensively in the second half as they scored on three out of their first four possessions to quickly tie the game 36-36. William Woods did not surrender the lead until Stevens knocked down a three-pointer for the Hornets with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game to make the score 51-49. The Owls battled back to regain the lead 54-53, but Kramer knocked down a baseline jumper to give the Hornets a 55-54 lead with just over seven minutes remaining. The Hornets’ defense held the Owls to just 10 points for the remaining seven minutes of the game to help secure the victory.
The Hornets held a 51-33 advantage on the boards, which included 21 offensive rebounds, which served to be a huge factor in the game.
Harris-Stowe will take a break from AMC play and host Blackburn College, Tuesday at 7 p.m.

| 2/01/10-- Hornets Win Big Over Eagles for Third Place in AMC |
The Harris-Stowe State University Men’s Basketball Team gained sole possession of third place in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) by defeating Williams Baptist College on the road 84-56, Monday night. The Hornets moved to 12-10 overall on the season and 4-3 in the AMC.
Harris-Stowe got off to a 12-1 lead to start the game.. The Hornets continued their stifling defense and held the Eagles to 15 percent shooting in the first half and led 35-16 at halftime.
The second half the Hornets displayed great offense and shot 67 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free throw line to secure the 28 point victory.
Robert Mumphard (Tower Grove Christian H.S./ St. Louis, MO) scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Hornets. Kevin Kramer (Hillsboro H.S./ Hillsboro, MO) scored 21 points, Lamarr Howard (STLCC-Meramec/ St. Louis) had a impressive double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds, while Terry Hollins (Marquette H.S./ Milwaukee, WI) fell one point shy of his own double-double adding nine points and 12 assists.
“We truly played team basketball today” said Head Coach Phillip Hunt. “This was a big game tonight against a good Eagles team and to step it up and get the job done on the road was really impressive.
The Hornets will look to add to their two game winning streak when they host William Woods University, Saturday at 4 p.m.

| 1/28/10-- Hornets defeat Cougars 55-47 |
The Harris-Stowe State University Men’s Basketball Team defeated Columbia College in a low scoring affair 55-47, Thursday night. Harris-Stowe’s record improved to 3-3 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) and 11-10 overall.
The Cougars took an early 12-4 advantage with just over 14 minutes remaining in the first half. However, the Hornets went on a 17-0 run to overcome the deficit to take a 21-12 lead with 7 minutes remaining in the first half. Both teams shot under 40 percent in the first half as Harris-Stowe led 29-20 going into the break.
Columbia College duplicated their hot start from the first half as they scored the first seven points to start the second half to cut the Hornets’ lead to 29-27. Harris-Stowe recovered with two quick baskets on a layup by Terry Hollins (Marquette H.S./ Milwaukee, WI) and a thunderous dunk by Robert Mumphard (Tower Grove Christian H.S./ St. Louis, MO) to stop the Cougars’ run. The Hornets never trailed in the second to hold on for the AMC victory.
Mumphard scored a season-high 18 points to lead the Hornets as their only double-digit scorer.
“Defense definitely saved us tonight,” said Coach Phillip Hunt. “It was great to win a tough game when we struggled offensively, we have to continue to take pride in our defense because our offense can come and go.”
Harris-Stowe will continue AMC play when they travel to take on Williams Baptist College, Saturday at 4 p.m.

| Justin Mosley enters his first year with the Men’s Basketball coaching staff. Mosley is a native of St. Louis, MO, where he attended Normandy High School. Mosley, a Harris-Stowe alumnus, was a two-sport star for the Hornets competing in both Men’s Basketball and Men’s Tennis programs. He has the distinction of winning the first Men’s Tennis match in school history. Mosley was a three-time scholar athlete for the Hornets as well. After graduating from Harris-Stowe in 2007, Mosley ran one of the state’s top high school basketball scouting services for the past two years. Now Mosley looks to bring that eye for talent to his alma mater.

| Coach Phillip Hunt returns to the Hornets’ nest for his first season as Head Men's Basketball Coach. Hunt previously served as the assistant coach for five years. Coach Hunt is also in charge of Sports Information duties at Harris-Stowe.
Hunt graduated May 2004 from Saint Louis University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. He played all four seasons at Saint Louis University including two years with Coach Lorenzo Romar and two years with Coach Brad Soderberg. Hunt was a two-time First-Team All-Suburban East Conference player at Clayton High School leading his team to two district championships under Coach Joe Gamlin. While starting his career as a walk-on at Saint Louis University, Coach Hunt earned a scholarship in his senior season and was a part of two National Invitation Tournament (N.I.T.) appearances as a Billiken.
